AIRCRAFT OF CGAS BROOKLYN

The following pages include photos of the aircraft that have served the air station during its first fifty years.

Hall-Aluminum PH-2

Three of these were the first aircraft to serve the air station. It had a range of 2342 miles and 7 were in service from 1934 - 1944.

Grumman Goose JRF-5

This aircraft had a range of 800 miles. The Coast Guard acquired 27 of these which were in use from 1943 - 1954.

Martin Mariner PBM-3 & 5

These had a range of 2240 miles. Sixty-eight were acquired and in service from 1943 through the late fifties.

OS2U-3 Kingfisher

These had a range of 865 miles. Fifty-three were acquired and in service from 1942 - 1944.

Consolidated PBY-5 Catilina

The PBY had a range of 2545 miles. One hundred twenty of these were acquired and in service from 1942 - 1954.

UF-1G Grumman Albatross

All of these were later modified to HU- 16E. As UF- I G's, 36 were acquired in 1951 and had a range of 2660 miles.

HU-16E Grumman Albatross

Seventy-one of these were acquired plus the 36 modified UF-1G's. These had a range of 3281 miles and saw service from 1951 - 1983.

P5M Martin Marlin

Eleven of these were acquired and in service from 1954-1961. They had a range of 3000 plus miles.

Waco J2W-1

Only 3 of this type were acquired. It had a range of 600 miles and was in service from 1937 - 1939. Parked beside it is a Douglas R4D.

R3Q-1 Reliant

Only one of these was acquired. It had a range of 350 miles.

  Boeing PB-1G (B-17J)

Used frequently on the International Ice Patrol, 18 of these were acquired. They had a range of 2500 miles and were in service from 1945 - 1959.

Sikorsky HNS-1 Hoverfly

This was the first helo used at Brooklyn Air Station in the training of pilots and mechanics. They had a range of 65 miles. Twenty-one of this type were acquired and were in service from 1944 - 1948.

Sikorsky HOS-1G

These had a range of 245 miles. Twenty- seven were acquired and in service from 1945 - 1949.

Sikorsky HO3S-1G

Nine of these were acquired and in service from 1946 - ? They had a range of 275 miles.

Piasecki HRP-1 Flying Banana

Only three of these were acquired for service from 1948 - 1952. They had a range of 140 miles.

Sikorsky H04S-2/ HH-19G

Twenty-one of these were in use from 1951 to the early sixties. They had a range of 475 miles.

Sikorsky HH-52A

1963 to Present. Ninety-nine acquired. Range 255 miles.

Sikorsky HH-3F

Forty acquired in 1969. Range 748 miles.

Aerospatiale HH-65A

Ninety-six acquired, range 400 miles, in service 1984 to present.
